Christchurch Neighbour Cars
Christchurch now has a new volunteer car service funded by the Dorset Partnership for Older People Project (P.O.P.P.) The car service will provide door to door transport for patients at Stour Surgery and for patients at other Christchurch Surgeries who have limited access to local transport. This might be for attending appointments - Doctors, Dentists, Hospitals - or visiting Church, clubs, friends, shopping etc. Unfortunately, the service is unable to accommodate wheelchairs.
All drivers are CRB checked and have badges with their name and photo for identification. The service has Public Liability Insurance.
To access this service, which requires at least 48 hours notice, please:
- Telephone the Co-ordinator on 01202 480572 Mon-Fri 9a.m. to 1 p.m. If the Coordinator is unable to take your call, please leave a message.
- Advise your name, address, postcode, telephone number, and journey details.
- The Coordinator will contact an available driver to book your journey.
- The Coordinator will call you back and tell you the name of the driver, and the arrival time at your home.
- You will be taken to your destination, and after an hour, returned to your home (unless a longer period has been booked). Some drivers may also be able to accompany you if you need help, for instance, walking around the shops. Please talk to the Coordinator about this.
- The drive will tell you the total mileage and cost of the journey at 40p per mile. Mileage includes distance from driver’s home and back again plus any car parking expenses incurred.
- You will be given an envelope for your donation – if possible it would be appreciated if your donation would cover the cost of the journey
- Please seal the envelope and return to the driver, who will pass this to the Treasurer for banking to Christchurch Neighbour Cars.
