Travel Information

Travel immunisations and advice do not form part of the provisions catered for under the National Health Service and is therefore a chargeable service.  However at Stour Surgery we provide a comprehensive service about what is recommended for a person embarking on a foreign trip and wherever possible carry out the recommended vaccinations at the surgery free of charge.

Travel Clinics are held at the surgery every Monday morning and alternate Friday mornings between 8.30am and 9.30am.  If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries and areas you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.  There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below:

It is beneficial to have any vaccinations recommended before travelling but ultimately the decision is up to the individual patient.  It is important where possible to make your appointment with the Practice Nurse 4-6 weeks before you travel.  This is to allow all of the vaccines time to work as a second appointment may be required if you need several immunisations.

Most travel vaccines are free of charge, however we do charge for Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies.  These charges are for all patients regardless of age and the vaccinations sometimes have to be ordered prior to the appointment.  Payment is made at Reception either by cash or cheque accompanied by a cheque card.  Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to accept credit cards.  Malarial treatment will be discussed at the appointment but this will either have to be purchased from the Pharmacy or prescribed on a private prescription.

Should you urgently require immunisations and are either unable to wait or cannot attend the next Travel Clinic there will be a surcharge of £20.  Alternately Nomad Travel Clinic is available in Southampton on 02380 234920.
