Welcome Spaces and Staying Safe in the Heat

Looking for a warm or cool place to relax in Christchurch? Welcome Spaces offer free spots to enjoy a drink, join activities, or get support. Visit The Runway Café (15 Airfield Road, Christchurch, BH23 8EZ) or Highcliffe Library (7 Gordon Rd, BH23 5HN). With rising temperatures, some people are more at risk, including older adults, young children, and those with health conditions.

Stay safe by keeping cool indoors, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding heavy activity during peak heat. Check on neighbours who might need help and if you feel seriously ill, call 999. For less urgent issues, please use the right services to help those in need.

Weight Management Update

The NHS-approved weight management medication Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) will be available in Dorset from autumn 2025, after a national rollout starting 23 June. Eligibility includes people with a high BMI and multiple related health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. Around 1,000 people in Dorset currently qualify. NHS Dorset is reviewing how Mounjaro will work alongside existing support services like diet, exercise, and psychological care. A new community weight management service is also planned for launch later in 2025.

Update to Your Cervical Screening Invitation

It’s important to continue attending your cervical screening when invited. Regular screening helps detect any changes early and plays a vital role in protecting your health. From 1st July, there’s a change to how often you’ll be invited for screening. If your test shows no HPV detected (HPV negative), your next appointment will be delayed to 5 years instead of the usual interval.

This change reflects improved testing accuracy and means fewer unnecessary screenings for those at low risk. If HPV is found, your results will explain what happens next and if you need further tests. If you have any questions, please contact your GP practice.
