Warm Welcome

Welcome to the Spring edition of our newsletter! We have some exciting news to share with you. Dr. Kevin Wrigley is thrilled to announce the birth of his baby girl in April. Both mom and baby are doing well, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the family. We also have some new faces at the practice.

Please join us in welcoming three new GPs: Dr. Nancy Theodorou, Dr. Laura Regan, and Dr. Matt Murray.

To learn more about these fantastic additions to our team, visit the Meet the Team section on our website.

Medicines waste - only order what you need

Approximately 1.6 million medicine items are wasted in Dorset each year. We need your help to reduce this. NHS Dorset has launched a campaign to cut waste and save money:

  • Check your medicines before ordering repeats. Only request what you need.
  • Speak to your pharmacy team if you have questions about changing your prescription.

For more information see the NHS Dorset website

Let your pharmacy team know if you’ve stopped taking any medicines or if they’re no longer right for you.

Return unused or expired medicines to your pharmacy for safe disposal. Proper disposal prevents pollution, and ordering only what you need helps the environment.

Health Checks

The NHS Health Check is a free assessment to identify your risk for conditions like heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and stroke. If you’re over 65, you'll also learn about dementia symptoms.

It’s for people aged 40 to 74 without pre-existing conditions like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or those on statins. Those with these conditions need regular check-ups with their care team.

If eligible, you’ll be invited every five years by your GP or local council. Contact them or your local pharmacy to arrange a check.

Blood Tests

If you have been requested for a blood test to be done by the hospital, these will need to be performed by the hospital. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity or funding to perform blood tests requested by the hospital and only can complete our own blood tests that are requested from our clinical team.

To book an appointment:

  • Phone: 0300 019 4781 between 8:30 to 4pm.
    • Phone lines are closed from 12:30pm to 1pm.

These outpatient appointments can take place at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Christchurch Hospital.

DNA Appointments

If you cancel your appointment with less than 30 minutes' notice, it will still be recorded as a missed appointment. To help us provide the best care for all our patients, please make sure to cancel in advance.

You can easily do this using the NHS app, by calling Stour Surgery at 01202 464500, or by visiting the surgery in person.

See our cancel an appointments page for full details

Urine Samples

We are currently very limited on urine pots, so we kindly encourage patients to bring their urine samples in a container from home when requested by the doctor.

Suitable containers include any clean, sealable jars or bottles. If you prefer, you can purchase a sterile container from the pharmacy at a low cost.

This helps us manage our resources more effectively and ensures we can continue to provide the best care for all our patients.
